Who hasn’t encountered days when every minute seems to bring an avalanche of one obstacle after another? At the end of the day, you want to throw up your hands, raise the white flag, stick your head under the pillow, isolate yourself in a soothing spa, or catch the next flight heading...well, just anywhere would be fine.

If this world has the capacity of draining you physically, mentally, and emotionally, rest assured it is taking its toll on you spiritually! There are times when you simply need a few moments of renewal.

Max Lucado, in Come Thirsty, writes in the flyleaf of his book: Have you been sipping out of a swamp? Drinking the deluge of Life? Religion may pacify, but it can never satisfy. The busyness of church may hide a thirst, but only Christ quenches it. Don’t you long to flush out the fear...anxiety... guilt? You can. All are welcome. You don’t have to be rich, religious, or successful; you simply need to follow the instructions on what—or better, Who—to drink. Him.

Heed your thirst. Drink deeply and often. And out of you will flow rivers of living water. Jesus said, “Whoever drinks the water I give will never be thirsty. The water I give will become a spring of water gushing up inside that person, giving eternal life.” [ John 4:14]

Lucado reminds us that our Maker has wired us with thirst. In fact, God has placed in us a “low-fluid indicator.” Watch for the signals—dry mouth, thick tongue, achy head, weak knees. What water can do for your body, Jesus can do for your heart. Lubricate it...aquify it...soften what is crusty...flush what is rusty.
