A lot of churches call it different things. In some churches, it is called Bible Study. Others label it Bible Fellowship Classes. Some have even abandoned the traditional label of Sunday School, fearing that somehow or another that tag carries a negative connotation. It’s not the name but the nature of the activity that is significant. The “label” has no impact on the learning that should be taking place during that one-hour period of interactive Bible study.
At Cornerstone Baptist Church , our focus is on teaching the Word of God in a real and relevant way. We want our Sunday School participants to come to Bible Study expecting to hear from God, and as they leave their Bible Fellowship Class, they will do so with some tidbit of truth or biblical principle that will help them live for God in the coming week. The goal of Bible study is not interpretation {though that is very important}, but application. What you believe always affects how you behave!
The task of the Sunday School is simple: REACH, TEACH, WIN, and DEVELOP. In a nutshell that explains what Sunday morning Bible Study is all about! Our desire is to reach others with the Gospel of Christ, teach them the ways of Christ, lead them to a saving knowledge of Christ, and help develop them in their walk with Christ. Former Sunday School revivalist Leon Kilbreth used to say, “If your Sunday School is not reaching people, then whatever else it’s doing is failing.”
Our Sunday School classes range in age from nursery to Senior Adults. Godly men and women serve in each of these various age groups. The teachers love God and love people. They do their best to be adequately prepared to deliver God’s Word to God’s people on Sunday morning. Check it out. You’ll find it will be worth your time not a waste of your time!
